April 26, 2024: Intellectual Property Tonga conducted a workshop aimed at bridging the gap between Intellectual Property (IP) rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Attended by a diverse group of business owners, the event centered around the theme of “Building a Common Future with Innovation and Creativity.”
Empowering businesses with the knowledge and tools to protect their intellectual assets, the workshop served as a platform to highlight the vital role IP plays in promoting innovation, creativity, and economic growth.
Through interactive sessions and insightful discussions, participants delved into how effectively leveraging IP rights can contribute to achieving the SDGs, particularly in Tonga’s context.
Key topics included understanding the fundamentals of IP, protecting innovations, trademarks, and patents. Alongside MEIDECC, MIA, and the Statistics Department co-hosting this workshop also exemplifies Tonga’s approach to SDGs by adding IP considerations into climate action, gender equality policies, and data-driven decision-making.
